Bastien Poux, P.Geo.

Senior Geothermal Geologist 

Bastien Poux

Bastien Poux is the Director and principal Senior Geologist at Aetna Geothermal, registered Professional Geoscientist with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC), with more than 14 years of experience in the geothermal industry. He has contributed to the exploration and evaluation of projects in various locations, including in the USA, Mexico, Chile, the Caribbean, France, Iceland, Croatia, Canada and Turkey. In addition, Bastien has also served as a wellsite geologist on drilling rigs in California, Montserrat, India, Djibouti and Iceland, including the Iceland Deep Drilling Project IDDP-2.

 

In his career, Bastien has worked as a Project Geologist for EGS, Inc (part of Thermasource) in Santa Rosa, California, also as a wellsite geologist and 3D modeller for the Iceland Geosurvey (ISOR) in Reykjavik, and as Senior Geothermal Geologist for Dewhurst Group.

More recently Bastien had been managing the geothermal customers in the Americas for Seequent, based in Vancouver, Canada. In this role, he has provided support and guidance to users of the Leapfrog Geothermal 3-D modeling package and participated in R&D projects to improve tools and create new workflows for better insight into geothermal reservoirs.

In 2022, Bastien founded Aetna Geothermal, which focuses on geothermal and lithium resource exploration and evaluation, wellsite geology, and 3-D modeling for companies worldwide.

Gene Suemnicht

Chief Geologist, CEO/Principal EGS Inc.

Gene Suemnicht

Gene is the Chief Geologist at EGS, Inc since 2009. Gene worked previously with Unocal, Geothermal, Ormat Technologies, IT Corporation and MacTec Engineering & Consulting. He has more than 45 years of professional experience in geothermal exploration and development throughout the western United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia and has worked as the technical lead or project manager for geothermal exploration efforts, field development projects and facility decommissioning and environmental remediation. He was responsible for the geologic evaluation and planning for more than 600MW of geothermal development for Unocal Geothermal at The Geysers in northern California and in the Imperial Valley in southern California. Gene earned an M.S. from the University of Arizona and a B.S. from Southern Oregon University.

Gene is a registered Professional Geologist in California and Texas and a Registered Environmental Assessor. Hey has served Board of Directors for the Geothermal Resources Council, and on the  the International Geothermal Association and the Geysers Geothermal Association and is an active member of the International Geothermal Association (IGA), American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the Geologic Society of America (GSA). He received the Joseph Aidlin Award from the GRC in 2015 for his lifetime contributions to geothermal exploration and development.

Katie Huang

Katie is a geologist-in-training registered with APEGS and APEGA. She holds a BSc. Hon. Geology from University of British Columbia and an MSc. Geology from the University of Iceland. Her specialty is in geothermal geology, with over 3 years of experience in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. She has conducted research in the fields of thermal gradient assessments in sedimentary basins, feasibility of re-purposing oil and gas wells for geothermal purposes, and others. She also has wellsite geology experience in the oil and gas industry.

During her career, Katie has been involved in outreach and education about geothermal energy in Canada. She has been on the Board of Directors for Geothermal Canada for 6 years and currently sits as Director At Large.
